Katie Melua The House out now

The Incredibly talented Katie Melua is back with her stunning new album ‘The House’ Having already smashed in to the chart with the brilliant first single to be taken from it ‘The Flood’ her second single A Happy Place certainly doesn’t disappoint.
The House which was produced by William Orbit showscases the diversity, Creativity and fresh sound that Katie brings to each album she writes and releases. Katie Melua is undoubtedly one of the Uk’s finest solo female artists.
Music Promotions recently had the plessure of interviewing Katie Melua to find out what she has to say read the interview below...

• The House produced by William Orbit, How did this come about? what is he like to work with?

I spent about a year writing the songs for the House, after all the songs were written we sent them to William, he got back to us and said he was interested. After a few phone conversations where we discussed what kind of album I wanted make we were in the studio literally 3 weeks later.
He is brilliant to work with, so passionate about music and having had so much experience he is still so open to exploring the artists vision.

• With this album you have worked with some amazing songwriters and producers, how does this album compare with your previous releases?

Every album is just the most accurate representation of where the artist is at the point of creating it. So i'll compare this album to the previous albums the same way I'd compare myself now to myself then. In the past I have been quite traditional in my approach to music, whether it was the traditional way Mike Batt was the songwriter and I was the singer, or even in the way we recorded. While making the House I wanted to retain the essence of the traditional values I loved but bring them more into the future.

• How long have you spent writing and recording The House?

About a year writing and then 2 and half months recording, editing and mastering.

• The First single to be taken from your album The Flood is this a good representation of the sound and style for the rest of the album?

Yes and no, yes because the song has many sides to it which is like the album in that there are many songs from different angles of music. No because the flood is a self contained creation which is like no other song on the album.

• This album has so many incredible songs, really beautiful lyrics, as a songwriter how are you inspired to write a song?

Song writing is a mystery to me, I think that's why I love it so much. Every year I feel I've discovered everything there is to know and then the next year brings something else. This year I discovered that my struggles in the past with writing was to do with having to be in two opposing emotional states. On the one hand I have to be fired up, e.g sad, angry, really happy to create a desire of expression and on the other hand I have to be totally relaxed in order to actually write.
But I'm sure now that I've found this out some other thing will show up as creating inspiration.

• In the future have you got any plans to collaborate with any other artists?

Not specifically but I'm always open to trying anything out.

• Have you decided on the next single release from The House?

Going to be A happy place, a song which is from the same lyrical family as the Flood.

• Having perfumed all over the world, where have been your favorite cities to perform in?

I love being on the road and the thing about being on the road is you mainly interact with the road. The cities and countries become a backdrop to the travelling group of people and music. So I could tell you a lot more about my favourite piano solo Jim watson played than I could about a favourite city to perform in.

• You have a massive European tour coming up later on in the year, how long do you like to have before hand to rehearse your live shows concerts?

We normally rehearse about a week or two depending on the size of the show.

• Being on your fourth album release, which of your songs give you the biggest buzz performing live? (Which are your favorites?)

The latest ones do feel incredible, like unveiling a brand new car to all your friends. But there's also an incredible feeling when I've let the closest thing to crazy reconnect with me in a totally different and new way. That was so amazing, it was like I had never sang it before while at the same time knowing its every intimate curve.

• Will you be performing at any of this years Summer festivals?

Yes, in the UK, Chichester Festival on 9th July and Thetford Forest on 10th July, as well as shows in Norway, Denmark, Holland, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Spain and Germany

• What is next for you?

I try not to make too many plans and just go with where the day takes me.
