Dancing His way back in to the charts and on stages across the Uk, the man Leon Lopez is back with his brand new single 'Dance' released on the 14th July through digital download.
Following Leon's 6th month stint in the musical Rent, he has been hard at work promoting dance and finishing his debut album Movin On. You can also catch Leon in a new musical coming soon, for further updates on this go to his official myspace page at www.myspace.com/leonlopez.
Where did Leon shoot the video for Dance? Crazy fan moments? Acting? are just some of the questions I asked Leon during this interview......

Your new single 'Dance' is released on the 14th July, what are your
expectaions towards this single? are you more nervous about this release than 'Love Got In The Way'?

I don't have any expectations really... i stressed my self out so much over the release of Love Got In the way, and worked my arse off with radio and other promotions and i really thought we would get some where. But sadly, with out the big budgets of major record labels i realised that its almost impossible to get Radio play, so this time around i am doing it for the fun. I wrote this track and it is fun and up beat and the dance remixes are AMAZING!!!!!

Did you write/co write Dance?

I wrote it, the lyrics and melody. The production was done by a great produce and friend of mine named Mark Stevens. He originally had the guitar line and basic drum pattern recorded and i loved it and asked him to send it me and the song just flowed from there!

Have you filmed the video for Dance? Where was the video shot?

We filmed the video all over London! it was hysterical, originally we had this
whole ghost story idea, my flat mate Anjlee features in the video but part way through the day we realised the idea was lacking something, so we went on a mad man mission and drove from East London to West stopping on the way and taking shots. We had such a laugh and got some really good results. My friend Alex Valls Directed the shoot

Is there a story behind Dance?

The story of the song is quite general. Its about spotting some one you fancy, or like the look of and wanting to approach them, but all you basically want to do is dance...lol I like to think of the term 'Dance' being a metaphor for doing anything other than just having sex. Using music, or anything really, to chat about instead of the usual chat up line. I mean the fantasy of seeing some one and spending time with them that wont necessarily lead to anything more than just getting to know them is sometimes more appealing than going the whole way. I know that sounds a bit
weird, trying to relay that in a pop song but i like to think people can take from the song what they like. Music means something different to everyone and because something is 'pop' doesnt mean it can't have a hidden depth or meaning to a certain individual

Having recently performed in the musical Rent, is musical theatre something
you would like to do more of in the future?

Yes! I love musicals. and i love theatre. I am just about to start rehearsing for a new 'play with music' (which of course is very different from a musical..lol). Its called 'Piaf" and its based on the life of French Singer Edith Piaf. I think i get to sing a little in this show too.

Do you have any acting roles lined up?

After 'Piaf' i am going to be appearing in a brand new play called 'Wig Out' at
The Royal Court In London from November till January. that show is VERY
different... it's a straight play, but i use the word straight very loosely. It's
set in a New York Drag house and i play the resident DJ who is the ex boy friend of one of the drag queens. The script is AMAZING!!!! And it is going to open in November and play at the Royal Court till mid January! I swear you will never have seen ANYTHING like it!!!

Do you have a particular role that you like to play?

I want to play any role a director may think i am right for and i believe i can pull off with conviction. I like roles that push me and challenge me and are so far away from Leon Lopez as possible, acting is my escape. I am also more up for working
with great directors rather than particular roles, the director of Piaf, Jamie Lloyd is a GENIUS!!!! I am so excited about working with him

Have you any live shows lined up for the Summer?

I have bits and bobs penciled in but its hard to know exactly at this moment what with my acting commitments but anything i can do, i will be doing. Best bet is to keep checking my myspace www.myspace.com/leonlopez as i will post them all there!

When can your fans purchase a copy of your album 'Movin On'?

When indeed!?!?!?! ha ha, its a tough one, my manager and i keep discussing
releasing it on itunes asap but we are really waiting for something to push it off the back of. something big PR wise. If Dance does well we we release straight away but its a tough one as we are proud of what we have done and want it to be heard by people and not just fade into the background. so not 100% sure yet, again, keep checking myspace

What music are you currently listening to?

Nothing! seriously, i cant remember the last time i bought a new album as not had a minute. I only really listen to stuff while i am training at the gym and i put my ipod on shuffle and listen to whatever plays! I think the last track i listened to was one from James Morrison's last album. I am also listening to alot of stuff by a new girl band called 'The Madame Project' mainly because my flat mate is one of the members and i am constantly hearing the tracks pumping out! They are wicked and hopefully going to release soon. They had their launch a few weeks back at Cafe de Paris in London and i was the host, i was so proud of the girls, they are FIERCE!

Have you had any crazy fan moments?

No you know, i have some great people who support me and they have always been fantastic, its crazy really as i dont tend to get 'fans' i get real people who appreciate what i do and thats amazing

Do you have any messages for your fans?

Please can i have some... (fans that is) ... No, to everyone who has continued to support me and to any new people out there, thank you for your kind well wishes and help to make my career a fun one!
