Interview-Lipstick For Vampires out May 24th
Marla
Interview
Summer's
on it's way and so is your summer pop anthem! Lipstick
For Vampires is your summer tune that will having
you singing along before you know it! Marla is the
artist behind the song, 2010 is going to be her year.
Some of you may be familiar to Marla, she was a finalist
on Hollyoaks Music show, Lipstick For Vampires was
her performance song and now is set to be released
on the 24th May.
Marla
will be performing live throughout the summer at varies
gigs and festivals all details can be found at her
official myspace:www.myspace.com/thisismarla.
The
video for Lipstick For Vampires was shot in New York, how
long did you spend filming the video?
We
only took one day to the shoot the video, we shot alot on
green screen, there is a lot of graphics. The video came about
after Carl a producer friend of mine who i was at film school
with invited me to New York, he offered to shoot the video
for my song Lipstick For Vampires, we came up with the creative
process together.
How
would you describe the sound and style of the single?
Lipstick
is really upbeat hooky tune, I wanted a track that everyone
be able to dance to, appeals to all ages. Lipstick has punchy
lyrics, edgier pop i'd call it.
How
are you feeling ahead of the release in terms of chart expectations?
Lipstick
For Vampires is the 1st single, i have open expectations,
this track is helping me get my name out there, face into
the industry, i just want people to get to know me, hear my
tracks and build up a following, this is such a great experience,
i'm enjoying every minute of it.
Have
you now completed your album?
I
have finished writing the album, still recording some tracks,
working with Johnny Rockstar who produced Lipstick I feel
very fortunate to have worked with him and make this CD, there
are some real catchy melodies, i can't wait to get this album
out there for you all to hear.
Is
Lipstick a good indication of how your album will sound? (
How much input have you had in to the making of your album?)
Yes
definitely, I wanted to put something out there that give's
a good indication of my music, I think Lipstick was the perfect
first single to showcase me, it is the kind of sound that
you can expect to hear from my album, my tracks have that
edgier vibe,
alot of my tracks that i have written are like a diary of
the last year of my life, everything that has happened to
me, when i write co/write a song i'll come in with the outline
of lyrics or a poem it's all very personal. I have written
so many songs i could turn them in to an essay. When you listen
to one of my tracks i like to leave it open to Interpretation...
Your
song Home is featured on BBC3 series Of The Hook and up and
coming film 'Cafe' how did this come about?
Home
being featured on Of The Hook came about really with the director
really liking my tunes and asking if he could use home, there
is also a track on a film Dvd release 40 winks, I used to
work in movies and i had previously worked with the director
beforehand and he asked if he could use my track in a particular
scene as it would work well and i said yes use it!
Any more soundtracks coming up?
There is quite a few in the works some for American TV and
film, i can't really give to much info at the moment but as
details are confirmed it will all be at my official my space:
www.myspace.com/thisismarla.
You
was a finalist on the Hollyoaks unsigned music show, how was
the experience for you?
I
loved it, a friend of mine sent my track in without me knowing,
they told me afterwards and said you don't mind do you! The
producers emailed me back saying they liked it and from that
i got to perform on the same stage as Calvin Harris and Daniel
Merriweather. It was also the first time i had performed live
on Tv, I had no expectations. From doing Hollyoaks my track
Lipstick For Vampires got heard and we decided it was going
to be released, the support has been amazing. It was such
a good experience, I would do it again.
You
are currently doing a series of live shows to support your
single release, what can we expect from your live show?
Be
surprised, i like to perform and entertain, i like to have
a good time on stage and give the audience a good time, put
on a show that they will enjoy, i don't do anything acoustic,
i have nothing to hide behind, see me live and you'll get
a real upbeat fun show.
Can
we expect any calibrations from you?
Not
right now, I have a song Take A Bow that i would love to duet
with some one with maybe a rapper that would be great, but
no not at the moment i'm just getting my name out there, getting
my self established.
Have
you got any live shows coming up through out the Summer? any
possible supports?
I
have Fish tank coming up which is a local festival in London,
there maybe some big festivals coming up which are being confirmed
at the moment as they are announced they will be on my space.
What
is next for you?
I'm
out there performing my single Lipstick For Vampires which
is out on the 24th of May, following up Lipstick with something
Underground a dance track to keep things moving, finishing
recording tracks for my album, hopefully get some tour supports,
Release in the States in the fall and just generally get my
name out there and meet as many of you as i can.
