Your
single My Baby Left Me out now, can you tell us more about
the song? What is the story attached to the song?
I
actually wrote My Baby Left Me 2 and half years ago, i wrote
it about a guy i was seeing, at the time i was going through
this bad relationship, it's quite funny this was the quickest
song that i have ever written!
Is
My Baby Left me a good introduction to your self as an artist?
I
think it is definitely one side to me, when you listen to
my album you will see the other side to me, there are so many
different layers and textures that goes in to a song, my lyrics
are quite autobiographical, this album is like the story of
my life.
You
have been tipped as the artist to watch this year, does this
put extra pressure on your self?
Before
i actually released my first single i actually got that, it
has been quite refreshing it has set the bar gave my more
attention, helped me get my music out there into the public,
there is a tiny bit of pressure i'm doing what i have to do,
i love making music and performing i just love what i'm doing.
What
are your expectations towards chart success?
If
I'm totally honest i was a little disappointed with how My
Baby Left Me performed in the charts, it didn't do as well
as i would have liked, but you know it's only the 1st single,
i have high hopes for the 2nd, this one has set a bar, got
my name out there, this industry is fickle, it is run by radio,
you have to be play listed on radio to get heard, it is a
hard market to break it to, what a lot of people don't realize
is that this song has done well in other places like Holland,
Germany and Spain were it has big radio air play, I just want
to get out there as much as i can doing what i have to do,
doing what I love.
When
can we expect an album from you? What sort of style and sound
can we expect from your album?
Expect
many different style and textures, big productions, acoustic
tracks focusing on just vocals, this album was done in the
moment, there was no limitations it has been like an account
of my life from being a teenager to turning into a woman,
issues that affect a lot of people as your growing up and
changing, you can really relate to the lyrics.
Which
single will you be following up My Baby Left Me with?
I
don't Believe will be the next single, we have already shot
the video in La, it will be released in two weeks on the 7th
June.
Are
there any artists who you look up to, who influences your
music?
Loads,
there is so many from artists who i grew up listening to,
I love Joni Mitchell, Lauryn Hill people who have real depth
and feeling into there music.
Can
we expect to see you releasing with other artists? Are there
any artists that you would like to collaborate with?
I
love Palo Nutini i would love to duet with him, that would
be very interesting to do, there are so many amazing artists,
the opportunity to sing with some of my childhood heroes would
be amazing, I don't have any duets on this album but hopefully
the second album for sure.
I did a great live collaboration with Paul Weller dueting
with him was awesome, he is such a versatile artist who has
been in the charts for so long to perform with him was absolutely
amazing, i would love to do more duets in the future, so yeah
definitely for the second album they shall be some collaborations.
You have quite a lot of live gigs coming
up over the summer which shows are you most looking forward
to?
Oh
yes! I will be performing at the Love box festival I can't
wait for tat one also I'm excited for V festival my European
gigs look amazing, I'm looking forward to performing everywhere
and anywhere! i am a lover of traveling all the different
places i get to travel to is amazing.
What can we expect from a Rox live show?
To
be entertained, I put my heart in to every performance to
make it special, I have a great band behind me, if your enjoying
it, i'm enjoying it.
What
is next for you?
Lots
more promo, my album and single I don't Believe are both out
in two weeks, there is some real exciting stuff coming up,
I am headlining a show at Kings Cross on the 17th June, more
festivals, some underage festivals i'm really looking forward
to, I am doing Latitude Festival again which i absolutely
love, it started out as a small festival and every year it
has grown it is so picturess it is an amazing festival to
do.
