Brixton grime legend Big Narstie and street sound stalwart Donae’o’s current track ‘It’s Yours’ is already taking off with heavy streaming and specialist radio support helping over the landmark of 500,000 streams. The track, which was also produced by Donae’o, now gets a fresh boost with the launch of its official video.
“When I heard Donae’o lay the hook I knew that it was fire and I just started spraying!”says Big Narstie.“Making this track happened so quickly once the process started and we both knew were onto something big.”
“I love working with Big Narstie,” adds Donae’o.“He is one of my favourite MCs right now and is always tremendous to work with. You’re always inspired around Narstie, he’s so unpredictable and that’s what you need when being creative. You need to have the freedom to express yourself honestly.”
Big Narstie first emerged as an underground teenage rapper during the first wave of grime in the early 2000s. What happened next is a story so remarkable that you couldn’t make it up. Narstie’s sharp-witted lyricism, fluid flow and all-round positivity has made him an in-demand collaborator for a diverse array of talent including Ed Sheeran, Professor Green, Robbie Williams and Enter Shikari. He even shot into the Top 10 when teamed up with Craig David for ‘When The Bassline Drops’ – a track that’s now closing in on 50 million streams.
His musical talent is matched by his larger-than-life personality. The Big Narstie Show proved to be a ground-breaking hit as it increased youth and BAME viewing figures by over 150% on Channel 4. Mixing star names with essential performances, the show was nominated for a BAFTA and won two major awards in 2018: Best Entertainment Show at the National Reality TV Awards and Best TV Presenter at the MVISA Awards. Those accolades add to previous triumphs – Best Grime Act at the Urban Music Awards on five occasions, Noisey’s Man of the Year, and Personality of the Year at GRM Daily’s Rated Awards.
A producer, songwriter, vocalist and MC, Donae’o released the seminal UK garage cut ‘My Philosophy (Bounce)’ way back in 2002. Since then, Donae’o’sstriking ability to move between sounds has earned him a reputation as a rare, multi-faceted all- rounder.
Boasting a CV of consistent artistry, Donae’o has become the go-to-guy for anyone looking for a chorus that punches or a beat with the Midas touch. With production that flits from grime to garage, R&B and beyond, his forays into singing, rapping and lyric writing have gone on to shape the star that’s in many ways still yet to be fully revealed.
