Jason,
Sean, Jon, Graeme and Henry make up Spectrum 7 your
newly discovered favorite new rock band! Myspace Spectrum
7 to hear there and find out where you can catch them
live. In their current lineup Spectrum 7 have been
together 2 years writing and performing, some of you
may be familiar with them having supported some incredible
bands including Enter Shakiri and People In Planets.
I recently
caught up with the band on the second date of there
current tour at the Black Market for a chat about
there new mini album which is soon to be released
on the 26th of October, there thoughts on chart success,
performing live and recording and so much more only
in this interview...

How long have Spectrum 7 been
performing live together?
About 2 years in this lineup.
What can your fans expect
from your debut mini release album 'So Silent The Night'?
We've got a 7 track mini album
which is a combination of the last year writing, its kinda
evolved into something were really pleased with,
so hopefully it will be an exciting album, it's kinda more
towards a rock sound and that's what were aiming for.
How would you describe your
sound as a whole?
We've all got so many different
influences its quite hard to pigeon hole us, first and foremost
were a rock band, we like to take
our inspirations from all around us from like what ever were
listening to what we are watching on the tv, what were reading,
our inspiration comes
from every where, we write with what we come out with really
and people seem to like that and that's good. ( Do you think
there are any bands which you feel you are similar to?)
There are bands we have been compared to but we wouldn't say
we are on the same line as those, there nice comparisons.
Is 'So Silent The Night' going
to be released at your live shows aswell as on line?
Currently we are hoping to
get copies for our live shows, i think initially it will be
purely an online thing,
Any singles coming soon from
your album ready for release?
The first single came out
in July, we hope to release a new single around December january
time and tour again
How important is chart success
to Spectrum 7?
It would be really nice! I
guess any band who wants to make a career out of the music
industry would love to be up there in the charts,
I don't think it worries us to much that were not racing up
the charts just yet, as long as there are people out there
listening to our music were quite happy with that.
Do you have a favorite part
to your job... performing live or in the studio recording?
Yeah performing live by far,
we do like recording, but its a bit like being cooped up for
so long in the same place you just wanna
play live really, we've been focusing so much on performing
live recently since recording the album, we do love the creative
process,
working with a bunch of musicians who are in this for the
same reason as us and have the talent to do it, its a really
nice process, but after a while you get to a point were you
just wanna unleash it! performing live is what you work towards.
You've supported some big
bands on tour, who has been your favorite to support?
People in Planes, amazing
to play with, one of our favorite bands, it was like a really
big deal to play with them, we've played with them three times
all ready this year, its been awesome, there such an inspiration
and so professional it's good to play with bands like that,
there really nice guys aswell!
Do you find some crowds harder to work than others?
YES! If we can be really blunt
about it!! when were on the road we love performing up North,
they welcome us with open arms, they seem to really take to
us, they have an open mind, We have some strong crowds down
South but generally they seem to be a lot tougher.
(Do you find you see some of the same faces at the different
gigs you do?) Yeah there's actually quite a few, recently
in London we saw more of the same faces. Were going back to
Durham soon, we had a good reaction last time so hopefully
we'll get the same again.
How is your current tour going? Do you have any favorite venues
you've enjoyed performing at so far?
Actually this is only the
second date! we can answer better at the end of it!!
Do you change your set list round for each gig?
We do change it around a little,
we add songs here and there, it makes it more interesting
for us, were doing a few more acoustic songs on this tour,
branching out a little bit, we may get some venues we wouldn't
normally play, so we have to change completely for that, also
so we don't play the same stuff over and over again.
Do you have an ultimate performance song- which gains you
the biggest response from the crowds?
Blue ray seems to be crowd
pleaser at the moment, quite a few of our songs do get the
crowd going, like Break for Science, a definite crowd pleasers.
But for people who haven't seen us live before Blue ray is
a popular song, its quite strange in a way because it's the
one song we really wrote for just ourselves and it seems the
one that has really reached out to our biggest fan base, it
kind of concretes the idea that if we do just what we want
to do
there will still be people out there who will listen to it,
which is really encountering.
Do you all have 100 percent
control over your music?
Yeah, were pretty much in
charge of the whole creative process which is nice.
What are your plans for the
rest of the year after your current tour finishes?
We have a whole load of songs
what we need to finish writing, we've got the album out at
the end of October, the next single,
I think were planning a series of EP's next year, we starting
to demo some tracks aswell. Were shooting the next video for
our new single soon, we've got a deadline to meet for that
one, i think were shooting the video during this tour.
Any messages for your fans?
Thanks very much for coming
to our shows, supporting us, giving Blue ray the amount of
plays that you have, we've really enjoyed this year its been
great, Stay in touch.
