With
a hectic touring schedule ahead of them and the release
of Hello Hurricane I managed to grab ten minutes with
Tim to discuss the bands latest album, touring and
there future plans...
Hello
Hurricane your new album out now, what can we expect from
it?
Hello
Hurricane is actually the hardest record we have ever made,
it has took us 3 years, we had 80 songs to choose from, the
cd didn't come without a fight. The criteria for this record
we wanted to set the bar real high. We are going to be performing
these songs live for the next ten years, we needed them to
be right coming out with the right songs is so important and
we are so proud of them, we hope all our amazing fans love
them just as much.
Having
already released this album in the states what are your expectations
towards UK chart
We
have a very fond relationship with our UK fans. Fans over
here are really driven musically orientated. As a band we
worked really hard on this record and were excited to releases
it.
The
Switchfoot cd has real meaningful life lyrics-How do you find
inspiration to write such amazing songs?
For
us we write from life experiences, as crazy as this may sound,
when things are going well and the suns out we'd rather be
out surfing so it's harder to write, the harder parts of life
are the easier times to write, the harder times the better
the hope!
Does
hello Hurricane tell the story of what this album is all about?
During
the process of this album, we had been working for Habitat
For Humanity down in Louisiana. And post-Katrina, we had that
opportunity to build some houses and [one for] a lady in particular
who had lost her home in the hurricane. It is really an interesting
story. She was building her new home with us and [she shared
with us that] she had lost her leg in the evacuation. Her
statement was, "I walked out of my old house, I'm gonna
walk into this new one." She had every right to be bitter
at the world and frustrated with life, but she had chosen
hope and chosen to face the storm head on that she had been
personally battling.
I think our storms all look different, individually. We go
through different things and we can't always control what
comes at us.
Hello
Hurricane your 7th album-how much has your sound and style
changed since the 1st?
Our
music has changed a lot, as when we was starting out we was
teenagers, i was in high school, we was talking about those
types of issues and then with touring for ten years, you grow
up experience different things, for us we like to write about
what we want to say. we are really focused, we like to take
risks see how far we can really push our selves with our vocals.
How
is your current tour going? which are your favorite cities
to perform in? what can we expect from a Switchfoot live show?
We
have just got back from Australia and before that we was in
Japan, we are still really humble that the crowds know our
words probably better than us! We have amazing memories from
performing in London, performing all over Europe- it's like
a soccer match, the crowds are so loud they really feel the
music, the States are more jaded, it's always great to perform
in our hometowns san diego and Seattle,
We just love the whole live experience, we love to give the
audiences something different every night, we are a very live
band we give an extended version of our songs, every night
is special, we change the set lists round, so you don't get
bored with us and we don't get bored either, expect something
very different and special.
Which
of your songs are your favorite to perform live?
Usually
is like a wrestling match between us and our fans, then wanting
our older songs and us wanting to perform our newer stuff.
With this record people really love it, from our newer songs,
Your Love is a real sing along song. We are very fortunate
with alot of bands they hate performing there older songs,
with us we love that our fans love to hear them as well.
Where
can we catch you live
We
hit the road with the Goo Goo Dolls in two weeks time, we
have a gig at the Forum in London, then were in Scotland,
Amsterdam, were going all over Europe, Are you doing any of
the UK festivals? We are doing the Download Festival were
really looking forward to that, we love UK Audiences and the
Festival scene, all tour dates for Switchfoot can be found
at www.switchfoot.com.
What
is next for you guys?
So
much is happening for us throughout the summer, were in the
States for two weeks, then into Europe for two weeks, then
we have festivals coming up followed by a full tour, then
straight of the back of that were going into the studio to
work on our next cd, we have a big year a head of us.
