Music Promotions catches up with Team work as they release new single Wasted summer to talk working with Loote and John K, being together as a band, time in the studio and much more.
How did you get together?
Sure! We met a few years ago on a random session that was set up and really clicked. We came up with the idea of doing a project together in late 2018 and put our first single out in 2019. It’s been an exciting journey so far and we’re just getting started!
What’s the story behind your new single ‘Wasted Summer’?
We had the idea of doing a song that was a nostalgic kinda song with lots of iconic imagery in it from Los Angeles (where we’re based). We took the chorus to Emma and she had he idea of making it more emotional and more of a heartbreak song looking back on the good times of a relationship that has run it’s course which we loved.
How did you come to collaborate with John K and Loote? We wrote this chorus idea that we had showed Emma of Loote in a session that she loved and contributed to, then we wrote the verses and pre chorus with her. Then we sent it over to John K and he put his spin on the second verse and brought the adlibs and then we incorporated all of that in the final production of the song. It was very cool.
Did you all manage to get into the studio at the same time or was it a case of recording your vocals separately for the track? We had a session with Emma of Loote in our LA studio, so she recorded with us and sounded great! John K actually got on the song later and sent us his vocals from Miami, which also sounded amazing!
How long do you spend producing and recording? The writing / recording session was a few hours but production took many days… There were a lot of different versions we went through but so happy with how it turned out!
Who would you like to work with that you haven’t yet?
There’s lots of people! We’re always keen to work with different artists and not restrict ourselves to one genre/style.
Any more collaborations lined up you can talk about? There’s a few really exciting ones in the works but nothing we can confirm yet!
Do you have an album in the works? Not yet an album but maybe you can say an EP is in the works!
With all the streaming platforms do you think this helps musicians getting their music heard? Definitely. Streaming platforms have been the launch of this project and were so thankful for that. New artists can be heard anywhere in the world at any time, and its probably easier to make money through streaming than it is selling hard album copies.
Anything you’d like to add that I haven’t mentioned with this interview?
