The Subways

How Do The Subways copy with their crazy touring schedule, Which venue has been there favourite to perform at, Are there any rock and roll moments from The Subways, How does All Or Nothing compare to their previous Album, the answers to these questions plus so much more can be found in this interview.

Hey How are you?

Very good thank you, happy to finally have the record out!

How’s your tour going?

it's amazing to be back on the road, and we're really excited with the reaction that the new songs have been getting.

When your on tour what’s a typical Subway day like?

Depending on how much promo we have to do, I always try to walk round the area we're playing in, to see what it's like. Then normally sound check, a few interviews, dinner, watch the support bands, play the show, have a few glasses of wine on the bus, then bed!

How do UK audience’s compare with US audiences?

We've done some amazing tours in the US, and been lucky enough to have some amazing audiences, who are up for listening to some new music. It was such a great experience for us on the Taking Back Sunday, Angels and Airwaves and Headautomatica tour. All those bands have such dedicated fans, who got there early to see us play first. The UK is our home, so it's always brilliant to come back and tour here.

Which City has been your favourite to perform in?

We've had some great shows in cities that we really didn't expect to even have people come and see us! Like Kansas City, the audience were amazing!

How was your performance at Glastonbury this weekend? Did you get chance to watch any other bands? Who was you looking forward to seeing?

It was a very proud moment for us to get to play on the Pyramid stage and we were surprised to see so many people turn up at midday to watch us! I saw Kings Of Leon play, who are such an accomplished live band now, and totally deserving of the headline slot.

How does your new album All Or nothing compare to your previous albums?

We were only 18 and 19 when we recorded Young For Eternity, and a lot has happened to us since then. We toured for 2 years after the release, and got to play some amazing shows on huge stages with our favourite bands. I think this naturally made us into a heavier band, with me and Billy dashing across the stage, Billy’s stage diving and Josh bashing the drums as hard as he can. This translated to the song writing, and we've been playing a lot of the songs from All Or Nothing for over a year before we recorded them. So I think this album has a lot more of our live energy to it.

Have you decided on your next release from All Or nothing? Do you have a date confirmed?

We've started playing around with a few new ideas, but there's nothing definite yet!

You have a really crazy touring schedule do still get any last minute nervous before going on stage?

There's always a sense of anticipation, but that just adds to the excitement and energy onstage.

Have you had any mad crazy fans moments?

We have such a dedicated fan base, who turn up all over the world to see us. That's pretty crazy for us!

Do you all have individual songs that you prefer performing live?

We all go through fazes of enjoying playing different songs live. I love playing I Won't Let You Down at the moment. During the bridge Billy gets the crow to clap along to Josh's rhythm, which is amazing to see from the stage!

Is there ever any rock n roll type behaviour from The Subways?

We're generally just conserving energy for the show! But we all like to go a bit crazy now and then...

Being together for a long time, what have the high’s and lows been so far in your career?

We've been all over the world together, and had some unbelievable adventures in Japan, Australia and the US together. Playing main stage Reading and Leeds festival too was a very proud moment for us. Billy and I used to camp at that festival, so it always feels like we're coming home when we play there. The lowest point definitly has to be during 2007 when Billy was going through the surgery and recovery for the poll ups on his vocal chords. So when we finally got into the studio last summer, we had an amazing time, working with one of our hero’s Butch Vig.

How do you all like to relax when your not touring?

I love and evening in, cooking, sharing a bottle of wine and watching a film.

What music can The subways be heard listening to?

All sorts! Yesterday I listened to Die Mannequin, Death Cab For Cutie and Kylie Minogue.... my music taste is quite random.

Which summer gig’s are you most looking forward to performing at?

It's going to be amazing to go back to the states again. We're playing Summer Sonic in Japan again, and playing in Slovakia and Poland for the first time. At the end of the summer we have Reading and Leeds festival again too...so I guess I'm looking forward to a lot! It's going to be an exciting summer!

Any messages for your fans?

We're all so proud and excited with All Or Nothing, so we hope that all our fans are enjoying it too and come and see us live later on this year!
